My friend and fellow style blogger Monica at Living in Vogue and I were invited to a fun store in downtown Palo Alto called West Elm to help celebrate their 1 year anniversary. We were tasked with styling a table using items from their Heritage and Murray collections and items from our own DIY table decorations. After visiting their store and exploring their collections we were inspired to create a rustic cabin table setting. I decided to make these DIY Chalk Acorn Placeholders. The beauty of these acorns is that they will be the most unique item at your holiday table and they are super easy to make! (more…)

Today’s post is short and sweet, just like our dog Harper! I realized that since I started using Instagram I’ve neglected to post and pictures of our pooch on the blog. When she gets tired she sticks her tongue out, does your dog do that? A few nights ago it was WAY out and I had to snag this picture.
Last week my sister Ashlie shared her recent Instagram favorites on her blog and I thought I’d snag the idea and share my favorite Harper Instagram pics. Some days I fear that I’m turning into one of those crazy dog ladies but I try to balance the pictures of her with pics from my organizing adventures and my wild life, ha! I hope you enjoy her little face as much as I do and I’ll see you tomorrow with a great garage transformation.
I’m so glad I decided to write a post each week called Fab Friday. It forces me to slow down for a bit and reflect on the little moments in my week that made me smile.
This week there were SO many fun events. For example, this picture from last week’s Estate Sale cracks me up. The sale was a complete madhouse and a crazy success, we sold $9,000 in two days out of a mobile home park-AMAZING! The streets were lined with cars and trucks loaded with goodies, fabulous! The guy on the truck closest to the camera is named Gary, he is an estate regular and he makes me smile.
Another estate shopper that makes me smile is named Miguel. He is knows the way to my heart (and a good price) is food. He brought the entire estate crew steak tacos on Saturday, fabulous!
After the sale was over we celebrated with a little college football and a lot of pizza. I have been sticking with my diet for the most part but pizza always makes me cave. This pizza is from Skip’s in Los Altos, it’s so good! (more…)
Where did November go? Thanksgiving has passed and we’re plowing full-force into the December holiday season. Orange and brown hues have disappeared from the shelves at my local stores and been replaced with an explosion of red’s and green’s. I love it!
Today’s post is a review of the super busy month of November. This month has really shown the diversity of the projects that my team at Kuzak’s Closet are tackling; great closet and garage organization projects, a full house relocation and un-pack, estate inventory, several estate sales and liquidations, DIY events, a book release and so much more!!
December is looking pretty packed but I am taking some time to visit family, which will be fantastic and I am looking forward to a break. We managed to squeeze two estate sales into December so be on the lookout for those updates and I am bringing back the Holiday Decor Week from last year that was so much fun. I love to see everyone’s different decorations and hear about the holiday traditions of my family and friends. (more…)
Moving is a great opportunity to clear the clutter and enjoy a fresh start. When a client hires Kuzak’s Closet to help manage their move and organize their new home we take care of all of the details – from the space planning to the unpacking.
We’ve been working on several relocations lately and today I wanted to share my favorite tips and some pictures to inspire you to embrace the opportunity to start fresh.
Tip#1: Sort and purge before you move! So many people pack up all of their possessions and take them to their new home without sorting and purging. Why bring unwanted clutter into your new home? Take the time to eliminate all of the items you no longer use or need. You’ll be surprised at how much easier it is to unpack!
I develop a sorting and purging schedule with my clients prior to their move. We typically schedule 4-5 sessions to work on each space in the home. This helps me understand their storage preferences and gives me an idea of how often things are used which is a great help when it comes to setting up systems in their new home. This is a picture of a toy pile that I sorted through the day before one of my clients moved…
One of my very favorite client organization projects is creating a home Command Center. Every home has multiple catch-all spots for every day items like mail, office supplies, magazines, instruction manuals, gift cards and coupons. I want to help you consolidate everything into one central location, so I am sharing my best how-to tips.
It’s been another fabulous week at Kuzak’s Closet! The Container Store recently opened a second location in our area and I’ve been going hog wild! I worked on a neat media nook this week and used tons of baskets, bins. My truck was overflowing…
The Cheap Chica’s Guide to Style arrived in the mail this week. I’m featured on page 93 as an expert professional organizer with tips for wardrobe organization. You should pick up a a copy, it’s a fabulous guide with tons of great tips and advice!
Our pooch Harper has been a good little girl this year so Santa asked her for her Christmas wish list. After much thought here is what she came up with, she is a good shopper just like her mama.
I will be out of town for Harper’s 5th birthday tomorrow but I am sure she won’t mind. Her day will consist of the same old dust chasing, tail biting, and snoozing without me.
Our dog Harper has quite the personality. A few weeks ago the Veterinarian asked me what words I would use to describe her and I really had to think about it. I was kind of embarrassed that I didn’t respond right away. After a little thinking here is what I came up with…
The Vet told me that was a good start which was a relief. Harper is an odd dog with lots of quirks and that is what we love about her. This photo captures her true personality I think…
Well, Happy Birthday Harper! I hope you have a wonderful time with your best buddy Grandpa Don (who is visiting next week), smoking cigars with him and going on long strolls.
TGIF my friends! Did you all survive Halloween? I’m so glad it’s over. I know I’ve been telling you that I’m embracing it this year but I’m afraid I am still not a fan. I’ve narrowed it down and I decided that it’s the adult costumes that freak me out.
This week was another fabulous one for me and my business. It started off with our regional professional organizing conference in Santa Cruz. It was a great weekend full of amazing speakers, topics, and networking. It was great to be surrounded with 200+ organizers from the area that understand this business, the highs and the lows. The keynote speakers was Dorothy Breininger, she was fabulous!
My husband was out-of-town all weekend so Harper and I had the place to ourselves. Have I ever mentioned how helpful she is in the kitchen? She’s always on the lookout for a falling treat! Look how patient she is! I went to a Halloween party at my friend Lori’s house and I brought my ricotta bruschetta and a spooky Halloween snack mix. (more…)
Chris and I had a nice weekend at home. It was a rare thing to have Saturday off and no major obligations. I did manage to talk him into going to Salvation Army with me to look for junky furniture to transform. We were on a mission for a kitchen table and some nightstands but we didn’t find either.
What we did find was a cocker spaniel to add to my collection. Harper was impressed with it, can’t you tell?
On Monday Chris and I played hooky and headed to Sonoma to spend the day with my cousin Jordan and his wife Lindsay. We had such a great time together, it made me miss having friends and family close by! I felt bad about taking the day off for about 5 minutes but then remembered that my next day off wouldn’t be until mid November, scary! (more…)
October is here! I’m ready for sweaters and boots, some great tailgate food, and lots of fun organizing and estate projects this month.
At the end of each month I like to do a review of all of the activity that has been featured on the blog. It’s fun to look back to see what I was able to accomplish. Just in case you missed something, here are the highlights…
I turned an antique door into a rustic headboard for our master bedroom. I love how it turned out and I can’t wait to find some cute night stands to fix up to go with it.
Today is the very first edition of Fab Fridays! It’s easy to get down in the dumps looking at social media and blogs, doesn’t Facebook bring you down sometimes? I’ve decided that instead of it making me crabby I am going to embrace it. I’m going to look at everyday events as fabulous ones and reflect on what I’m thankful for in my life. This series will run each Friday until Thanksgiving so stay connected.
Aside from me ranting and raving I want to hear from you too. Tell me what’s fabulous in your life right now. Have to tried a new recipe? Bought a new shirt? Potty trained your toddler? Organized that area under the sink that always looks terrible? Whatever it is I want to hear from you. We may not be famous or fabulous but it’s okay to act like it on Fab Fridays!
First I want to share my new favorite sweater with you, it is FABULOUS! It’s be Jennifer Lopez at Kohl’s and it goes with everything! It looks more see-through in the picture online but it isn’t in real life. I wore it out with skinny jeans and nude pumps this week…here is the look…
I’ll also wear it with leggings and boots this fall and winter. It comes in pink and gray. If you use enough Kohl’s coupons you can get it on sale like I did. I think I only paid $30 for it. Gotta love J-Lo and Kohl’s!
My friends, I am writing today about a fabulous little invention called spray paint! I use it all of the time and I’m amazed at how quickly it can transform just about anything! At my Los Altos Estate Sale over the weekend there was an adorable set of black wicker nesting tables that didn’t sell and I was shocked… seriously shocked!
They were so darn cute, I thought they would sell in the first 20 minutes but they sat and sat. I heard a few customers comment that they didn’t like the color and I bit my tongue, I figured if they couldn’t see the potential of the fabulous trio they didn’t deserve them and I decided to buy them for myself.
Now this may not be the greatest transformation you have ever seen but THAT is the point! It shows how fast and easy spray paint is! It literally took me 25 minutes from start to finish to paint them!
Since last week’s post there have been many fabulous things going on in my life. I am so thankful for my friend Lori who calls to check in with me a few times a week and even manages to get me out of the house for social events once in a while. She called me last Friday afternoon to ask me if I wanted to participate in a fun run that night.
It was a 5k and I’ll be honest, it’s been a long time since I ran that far. I couldn’t keep up with Lori and her daughter Hayley but I’m proud to report that I was able to run more than half of the race. Lori met me at the finish line which was a nice surprise, gotta love fabulous friends!
Hot or Not?! made a surprise comeback on the blog this week. I love that series, so many fabulous ideas and comments from all of you! I shared my new flannel sheets as one of the HOT items, they are fabulous! Look for the Threshold label at Target! (more…)
I know most bloggers out there are sharing the fall decor that they’ve crafted from sticks and reclaimed wood but this is not that kind of post. I’ll admit it, here at Kuzak’s Closet I buy my most of my decor…as in go to the store and buy it. I know it might seem crazy for a blogger to do this but I want to be honest with you. I know it might seem early to have pumpkins out but I need to see them to remind myself what time of year it is. This midwest girl always thinks it’s summer with this California sunshine!
I’m mostly sharing this post because my husband uttered a phrase that my dad used to say to my mom growing up and it freaked me out. Am I turning into my mother already? He said, “I don’t know why you work so hard to make our house look nice for the holidays when no one is around to enjoy it.” I refuse to give in to his point so I decided to take some pictures and have you all over for a peek at my pumpkins!
Each year I add a few more pieces to my seasonal repertoire and by far the most difficult season to buy for is fall. I’m always looking for things that will look nice from September through Thanksgiving. This year I had really good luck at HomeGoods finding cute things that I’ve seen at Pottery Barn for a fraction of the price. I also put together a few vignettes with items that I found at Michael’s craft store. Can you believe the orange mercury pumpkin in the picture below was already on clearance for $3 there? A word to the wise, shop for fall decor because they put the Christmas stuff out! Every year it gets earlier and earlier, I started to see Christmas at some of my favorite stores last week!

Chris and I walk a few miles with our dog Harper every night before it gets too dark. I don’t consider it exercise because we move a little slower than I would walk on my own. It would take most people 30 minutes to walk two miles but it take us about an 45 minutes because Harper wants to take a pit stop in every yard in the neighborhood.
Over the weekend I installed 2 new shoe organizers in my closet. I hate the process of putting things together, especially when our dog Harper decides to chew a few of the parts and eat the directions! These organizers are really easy to put together but for some reason my screw driver kept stripping the screws so I really had to use my muscles! In the end they turned out great and I was able to achieve my goal of maximizing the space on my closet floor and display my handbags so I will be encouraged to use them.
I shared the inside of my closet…Kuzak’s Closet, ha ha, a few months ago. Many of you seemed to really enjoy the post so I thought you might like to see the updated look. Before, all of my shoes neatly lined the floor of the closet and my handbags were in bins and on the shelves. After the simple shoe organizer installation, it looks like a little boutique which will encourage me to accessorize with new items instead of my go-to favorites.
Normally I use shoe cubbies with my clients but in this case I thought a simple shoe shelf from The Container Store (they sell similar products at WalMart and Target) would allow me enough space to display my handbags on the top shelf without bumping into the clothing. I love seeing all my shoes at a glance, it’s like seeing all of my friends! FYI, if you like these shelves and have more room for storage they are stackable.
