I’ve been able to jam a lot of fabulous stuff into this week! It all started with a great PR and marketing meeting with my team. We hashed out ideas for 2014 over some Chinese takeout and red wine.
Next year I really need to expand. I have a full calendar with great clients and great projects booked through February which means I need to figure out how to find room for all of the new business that comes in daily. It’s a good problem to have but growing can be difficult. It really keeps me up at night.
My husband and I took the wallpaper down in our kitchen in early October. In it’s place we painted the walls with a light shade of turquoise, doesn’t it look fabulous! I wanted to wait until I found a new table and some accessories to share before and afters but with my schedule I don’t think shopping is in my future. I’ll keep you posted on the progress, hopefully I can find something before Christmas. (more…)
It’s been another fabulous week at Kuzak’s Closet! The Container Store recently opened a second location in our area and I’ve been going hog wild! I worked on a neat media nook this week and used tons of baskets, bins. My truck was overflowing…
The Cheap Chica’s Guide to Style arrived in the mail this week. I’m featured on page 93 as an expert professional organizer with tips for wardrobe organization. You should pick up a a copy, it’s a fabulous guide with tons of great tips and advice!
I’m so glad I decided to write a post each week called Fab Friday. It forces me to slow down for a bit and reflect on the little moments in my week that made me smile.
This week there were SO many fun events. For example, this picture from last week’s Estate Sale cracks me up. The sale was a complete madhouse and a crazy success, we sold $9,000 in two days out of a mobile home park-AMAZING! The streets were lined with cars and trucks loaded with goodies, fabulous! The guy on the truck closest to the camera is named Gary, he is an estate regular and he makes me smile.
Another estate shopper that makes me smile is named Miguel. He is knows the way to my heart (and a good price) is food. He brought the entire estate crew steak tacos on Saturday, fabulous!
After the sale was over we celebrated with a little college football and a lot of pizza. I have been sticking with my diet for the most part but pizza always makes me cave. This pizza is from Skip’s in Los Altos, it’s so good! (more…)
TGIF my friends! Did you all survive Halloween? I’m so glad it’s over. I know I’ve been telling you that I’m embracing it this year but I’m afraid I am still not a fan. I’ve narrowed it down and I decided that it’s the adult costumes that freak me out.
This week was another fabulous one for me and my business. It started off with our regional professional organizing conference in Santa Cruz. It was a great weekend full of amazing speakers, topics, and networking. It was great to be surrounded with 200+ organizers from the area that understand this business, the highs and the lows. The keynote speakers was Dorothy Breininger, she was fabulous!
My husband was out-of-town all weekend so Harper and I had the place to ourselves. Have I ever mentioned how helpful she is in the kitchen? She’s always on the lookout for a falling treat! Look how patient she is! I went to a Halloween party at my friend Lori’s house and I brought my ricotta bruschetta and a spooky Halloween snack mix. (more…)
Since last week’s post there have been many fabulous things going on in my life. I am so thankful for my friend Lori who calls to check in with me a few times a week and even manages to get me out of the house for social events once in a while. She called me last Friday afternoon to ask me if I wanted to participate in a fun run that night.
It was a 5k and I’ll be honest, it’s been a long time since I ran that far. I couldn’t keep up with Lori and her daughter Hayley but I’m proud to report that I was able to run more than half of the race. Lori met me at the finish line which was a nice surprise, gotta love fabulous friends!
Hot or Not?! made a surprise comeback on the blog this week. I love that series, so many fabulous ideas and comments from all of you! I shared my new flannel sheets as one of the HOT items, they are fabulous! Look for the Threshold label at Target! (more…)
Chris and I had a nice weekend at home. It was a rare thing to have Saturday off and no major obligations. I did manage to talk him into going to Salvation Army with me to look for junky furniture to transform. We were on a mission for a kitchen table and some nightstands but we didn’t find either.
What we did find was a cocker spaniel to add to my collection. Harper was impressed with it, can’t you tell?
On Monday Chris and I played hooky and headed to Sonoma to spend the day with my cousin Jordan and his wife Lindsay. We had such a great time together, it made me miss having friends and family close by! I felt bad about taking the day off for about 5 minutes but then remembered that my next day off wouldn’t be until mid November, scary! (more…)
Happy Friday! I am so thankful for all of the fabulous events that took place in my life this week!
The overall highlight was being asked by Hope and Grace (our favorite winery) to pour wine at the Stanford Buck-Cardinal tailgate last Saturday night. Chris and I could hardly keep up with the crowds but it was a blast. We filled over 700 wine glasses and met some great people. This is a picture of us with Charles, the Hope and Grace wine maker. It makes me happy every time I see it. I’m thinking of making it our Christmas card this year! Fabulous!
It’s Fab Friday! I’m loving this series! Thank you all so much for commenting last week, it was fun to read about the highlights from your week. Don’t forget to check at the end of today’s post to see if you won the Cyndi Bands giveaway!
My week really flew by which was good because I was struggling with a sinus infection. Do you ever get those? They are AWFUL! Mine tend to sneak up on me but this time I caught it early, thank God! My doctor gave me this stuff to take and it was fabulous! It gave me the same relief of regular antibiotic in only 5 days. Magic!
Today is the very first edition of Fab Fridays! It’s easy to get down in the dumps looking at social media and blogs, doesn’t Facebook bring you down sometimes? I’ve decided that instead of it making me crabby I am going to embrace it. I’m going to look at everyday events as fabulous ones and reflect on what I’m thankful for in my life. This series will run each Friday until Thanksgiving so stay connected.
Aside from me ranting and raving I want to hear from you too. Tell me what’s fabulous in your life right now. Have to tried a new recipe? Bought a new shirt? Potty trained your toddler? Organized that area under the sink that always looks terrible? Whatever it is I want to hear from you. We may not be famous or fabulous but it’s okay to act like it on Fab Fridays!
First I want to share my new favorite sweater with you, it is FABULOUS! It’s be Jennifer Lopez at Kohl’s and it goes with everything! It looks more see-through in the picture online but it isn’t in real life. I wore it out with skinny jeans and nude pumps this week…here is the look…
I’ll also wear it with leggings and boots this fall and winter. It comes in pink and gray. If you use enough Kohl’s coupons you can get it on sale like I did. I think I only paid $30 for it. Gotta love J-Lo and Kohl’s!
As a professional organizer I come across some pretty interesting gizmos and gadgets when I am working with my clients, espeically in the kitchen. No wonder they call me for help creating storage space, so many of the kitchens I see are loaded with bulky appliances that may or may not be neccessary.
I am sure you have seen these gadgets, and some of you have them. Today I am asking for your feedback, do you love these gadgets, can’t live without them? Or do you think they take up too much room on the countertops and on the budget. Please cast your vote…
My new years resolution is to stretch and do more yoga, something I typically don’t enjoy. It is just too slow paced for me, and when I am locked in a pose I have a hard time fighting the urge to vacuum and disinfect the floor.
I have been curious about Bikram yoga (hot yoga) since I moved to California. Why would anyone want to spend 90 minutes in a hot room, 106 degrees to be exact, with lots of people sweating with their legs above their heads. Sounds strange doesn’t it? I decided I shouldn’t judge it until I try it so I went to my first class yesterday. The yoga studio I go to is called Yoga Source, it is conveniently located between a diner and an ice cream parlor in Palo Alto. I only noticed because I was very tempted to skip class and get a milkshake instead.
I arrived early to the class so I could ask the receptionist if I should be worried about anything, you know, like throwing up, passing out, dying? She cracked up and told me to stay by the door and I would be fine. Once we were allowed to go into the studio I snagged a spot in the back row right by the door, I watched the other people walk in the class and noticed they were all in good shape and they had much better outfits than me, I always hate to be the worst dressed.
The 26 Bikram Poses…
We started the class with some interesting breathing exercises, and started in on our 26 poses. I have done my fair amount of yoga in the past so I was familiar with the poses. Before I knew it the class was half over and I was really enjoying it. For each pose the instructor told us how we were benefiting our internal organs, I have never had an instructor talk about the yoga process so in depth so that was interesting. After class she said we would all sleep like babies that night and she was right! I could hardly keep my eyes open last night and ended up going to bed really early. I slept like I haven’t slept in years and I am still tired today.
Overall I really loved the class and I hope to make it to a class a few times per month. It was so calming and today my body is sore, almost like I went for a really long run instead of doing yoga. I can’t believe how well I slept and now after reading more about Bikram online I am interested to see how it can benefit me internally. I had no idea that I could burn between 500 and 1,000 calories doing yoga, that would explain why I was so hungry after the class.
So now I want to know if you have ever heard of hot yoga. Have you tried it? Would you try it? Do you love it? Do you hate it? I can’t wait to see your votes and read your feedback!
What do you think about Bikram Yoga?
I love it! I hate it! I want to try it? I’ve never heard of it!
We all store our shoes differently and as a professional organizer I have seen it all. Some of us like to pile them up by the front door, others have them neatly placed in clear bins or show boxes, and others place them neatly on shelves, shoe racks, and the floor or their closets. Today I want to know what works (or doesn’t work) for you, please comment and tell me the method to your shoe madness and don’t forget to vote! Here are the options…
I have been browsing online for decor ideas for our new house and I noticed that Overstock has a lot of cute things and their prices are unbeatable! Is it too good to be true? It seems a bit risky to me, I like to sit on chairs to test them out and feel an area rug to make sure it is soft but with Overstock’s $1 shipping maybe I should take a chance?
Have you ever ordered a large item from Overstock? What has your experience been? I am dying for your feedback!
This week I had a consultation with a new client and when I pulled out my day planner to schedule her appointments she told me that I needed to be more hip and use the electronic calendar on the phone. I explained to her that I prefer using the day planner because I like to write things down and she understood. Everyone keeps track of their schedule differently and in my opinion the right way to do it is the whichever way that works for you, if it is a day planner, sticky notes, your iPhone, or your memory, I don’t care as long as you don’t miss an appointment with me!
I asked my Facebook friends to give me their thoughts and here are some of their responses…
“Use my Google Calendar since I have so many recurring appts, but I track *all* my workouts in an old fashioned notebook… can’t bring myself to use the fancy trackers on my phone. I love writing it down!” -Anne
“I’m still more about the old-school reminders. But right now I’m so scattered and busy and my schedule is so variable that I use a variety of methods – a wall calendar, a small dayplanner for my purse, a day planner for on my desk, and an online calendar. For me, the irony is that I don’t actually*look* at the calendars very often. But synching them up once a week helps me keep it in my hand. Besides, I *can* look from almost anywhere if I have to. And anyway, my phone isn’t that sophisticated.” -Ilene
“I love paper too, but only for taking notes now. I used to have a Day Planner, but if I was out and trying to book the next appointment, was screwed if I couldn’t pull up my calendar on my phone. So, now I have my calendar on my iPhone, but do have it synched with Google Calendar so I don’t lose it if my phone crashes. I love it because I can book appointments anytime, and anywhere, but am definitely not paperless when it comes to other aspects of my business.” -Kathy
“I’ve tried using the phone many times but always revert back to the day planner. It’s the one thing that I can’t give up in this technology age.” -Kristin
Please vote in today’s Feedback Friday poll and let me know which method you prefer, writing things down in a day planner or keeping track of your schedule electronically.
Sometimes I wish I would be an organizing fairy and travel all over the country helping families get organized one closet at a time but there are just not enough hours in the day. If my wish came true and you could sprinkle fairy dust and have me magically appear, which room would you want me to organize for free before the Holidays? Below are the voting choices based on Kuzak’s Closet real life before and afters. I can’t wait to see which room you all choose! Thanks for your feedback!

Moving is a great opportunity to clear the clutter and enjoy a fresh start. When a client hires Kuzak’s Closet to help manage their move and organize their new home we take care of all of the details – from the space planning to the unpacking.
We’ve been working on several relocations lately and today I wanted to share my favorite tips and some pictures to inspire you to embrace the opportunity to start fresh.
Tip#1: Sort and purge before you move! So many people pack up all of their possessions and take them to their new home without sorting and purging. Why bring unwanted clutter into your new home? Take the time to eliminate all of the items you no longer use or need. You’ll be surprised at how much easier it is to unpack!
I develop a sorting and purging schedule with my clients prior to their move. We typically schedule 4-5 sessions to work on each space in the home. This helps me understand their storage preferences and gives me an idea of how often things are used which is a great help when it comes to setting up systems in their new home. This is a picture of a toy pile that I sorted through the day before one of my clients moved…
Every time I go to the grocery store I am tempted to pick up a bag of Halloween candy. I love the fun displays filled with M&Ms in festive colors and the multi packs of Hersey products, yum! I never give in to this temptation because I know I will lose self-control and eat the entire bag in one sitting. Do you have this same problem?
My buddy Jack gave me 2 little side tables recently, aren’t they cute?
With a little paint, I think they will be perfect for the living room in our new house. Yes, I said new! We found the perfect rental and are moving in April, we are so excited to move!
I am not sure what color to paint them, I am thinking blue or green but I want your feedback. Everything is pretty neutral except for the throw pillows that don’t have to be permanent. Here is what we have…
Our sofa is beige with brown checked and floral pillows.
The matching ottoman is brown and beige…
And this leather chair…
Please cast your vote for the color that you would choose. I would also love to hear your tips and suggestions so leave a comment for me!
Happy Friday to all of my readers! It has been a few months since my last reader poll and I would love your input on my blog topics. Each week I write about a variety of topics and I sometimes wonder if there is one that you enjoy more than the others. I would love to hear from all of you regarding which topics are your favorite!
There is a voter poll on the top right of this page, please select you favorite topic that I write about. The polls will close tomorrow evening. Here are the choices…
I know this might seem like a silly question to some of you but do you believe in expiration dates? I am asking because each week as a Professional Organizer I work with clients who don’t believe in them they try to convince me that it is okay to have medication, food, and beauty products on the shelves past their date of expiration. Each time I give the same talk about how it can be dangerous to keep items that have expired like meat, pantry items, and beauty products. I am not always a rule follower but I do stick to expiration dates in my house, I figure they are there for a reason! What do you think?
